2018 BEAUTY TRENDS

It’s the new year and with that comes new beauty trends to watch out for. Some of these trends we love, others…not so much. This is what we predict you will be seeing more of in 2018. As always, what matters is that you feel beautiful and confident! There are so many treatment options out there to get your skin looking its best without having to turn to invasive procedures or the upkeep associated with some injections. Plus, as always good skincare is a must! If you aren’t on a good skin regimen, avoid chasing trends and start there.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE 2018 BEAUTY TRENDS WE THINK YOU SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR:

At home gadgets…everywhere

We saw this coming at the end of last year. At home, skin care gadgets are on the rise. We’re not just talking about a Clarisonic brush either. At home, rolling is one of the hottest areas right now. And while this is becoming a trend, I am personally not a huge fan. With rolling you are piercing the skin with fine needles, so in my opinion sterilization matters. With micro-needling in office, everything is sterile, with a new tip used each visit. At home, there is no way to sterilize the equipment properly. Feels like a great equation for some nasty bacteria. Try this great Jade Roller instead. It does not have needles but acts as a specific massage for the skin, bringing blood flow to the area. Plus, it has been used for years in China for skin care. Sounds great to us! Other devices you are going to see a lot of this year is microcurrent devices designed to tone the skin.  Also, don’t throw away your Clarisonic just yet. Those really are great for making sure your skin gets a good wash!

Non-invasive Cosmetic Procedures

If you did not see this trend soar in the last year you have been living under a rock. This year will be no different. People are looking for cosmetic procedures that give natural looking results and have minimal downtime. The field of regenerative aesthetics will continue to soar this year. Treatments using Platelet Rich Plasma and stem cells will continue to grow. Lasers and micro-needling will continue to be huge. Along with that, watch out for the rise in PDO threading. An effective way to tighten the skin with absorbable suture. Over time the suture is broken down and collagen is left in its place. You will be seeing a lot of this in 2018!

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) will still be big in the aesthetics community (along with LOTS of other great applications in other branches of medicine). Expect to see lots of PRP used in face procedures, including as filler, as well as a rise in procedures like PRP Hair Restoration.

Naked make-up

Good thing non-invasive skin treatments are on the rise because a huge trend you will be seeing this year is women ditching their thick make-up for a more natural look. More emphasis will be put on natural beauty and the skin itself. I personally am very excited about this trend as women move to using less cosmetics in their daily routine. If you are less than excited about this, micro-needling or laser might be a great way to get your skin looking it’s best before you go naked!

Inside-out skin care

Yes! This is a tend we are very excited about. This year you will be seeing that people are focusing not only on what goes on their skin, but also how what goes in their body affects their skin. Basically, the conversation I have with my patients all the time! Expect to see a rise in supplementation and superfood nutrition aimed at getting you a brighter complexion. Similarly, expect to see lots of conversation regarding gut health and your skin. Probiotics will be one of the big skin trends this year.

There you have it, some of the things we predict you will be seeing a lot more of in the coming months. As always, if you are unhappy with your skin get it looked at by a professional. I can’t tell you how much of a difference some personalized skin care and nutrition recommendations has made in the skin of my patients!
